| First off, consider you'll probably spend twice that. Trust me. If the engine is busted your just going to be using the short block, as you know. Youll have to rebuild it, like you said. Im assuming you want newer heads because of the "soft" valve issue (You should check the block number before you buy new heads, if that is the reason you want new heads) Dont rebuild the stock turbos. It is not worth it. From what I've read/heard, they go out in a couple months. I say again: DONT rebuild the stock turbos. For that reason you might not want to buy your friends car. However, why not take the time to save some money for better turbos. Youll do it down the line any way. It makes more sense to do it right the first time. Your gonna need a new det. sens. You'll already be in there, its in your best interest to do so. To be honest theres alot of stuff your going to need to buy/ replace for good measure. Either way you cut it alot of work is going to need to be done. If you do decide to buy it just know that youre going to spend more money than you think. Dont be cheap. Dont rebuild the stock turbos. Read up on all the FAQ, and search. I know, I just finished my conversion. :)
